If you travel from Martigny, your GPS will likely now and then send you from the main road. Do not do this, but just follow the main road over the Col de la Forclaz. If you are travelling from Chamonix TomTom sends you probably almost immediately after the border already left (direction Chatelard Village and Giétroz). Do not do this, because this is a very steep and narrow mountain road. Drive therefore still about 1 km straight and take the next left (= the 2nd left after the border). Watch the signs and follow Finhaut!
By car from Switzerland - the shortest and easiest route from the North
From Martigny follow the signs towards Chamonix (F) over the col de la Forclaz. In the descent of the col, you pass the village of Trient, then the road makes a left turn and drives down through a tunnel. After the tunnel, take the first right direction Finhaut (decelerate, sharp right). The road goes down, through a tunnel and then up. Follow this road, not right at the first intersection with the Matrix board, but continue and take the hairpin bend to the left. After 300 meters you're again at a crossroads. Stop here. Our chalet is situated to your right above this intersection. You can park in the parking area on the left side of the main road, opposite our chalet. In the dark, the reference is an orange streetlamp.
By car via France from Chamonix
Follow signs for Martigny (CH). You drive around the col des Montets through Vallorcine over the Swiss border. After the border, follow the signs Finhaut (2nd left behind the border).
Please note that heavy snowfall is the Col des Montets between Chamonix and Vallorcine sometimes closed due to avalanche danger. You will be redirected through a train tunnel, it does often (hours) delay, especially on weekends. Do you want to be sure that the way is open, please call us at tel. +41 27 768 10 33 or +41 79 688 13 71. If you drive through Switzerland, you do not have this problem.
By Plane
The nearest airport in Geneva (CH). From Geneva airport there are excellent trainconnections via Martigny to Finhaut. Please note that cheap is expensive buy. Often very late and very early flights very cheap. However, we advise you not to take it. Please note that you must be in the mountains early in the morning and late in the evening (even after 20:00) train timetable is limited. Furthermore, and this is true for example if you rent a car, the roads when it snows at night and early in the morning is not kept clean. Always check before you book your flight via the train times www.sbb.ch.
NB If you want to rent a car, make sure that you hire the car on the Swiss side of the airport: the cars on the French side are often not equipped with winter tires and snow chains (indeed necessary if you at this time of the year traveling the Alps!). The shortest route from Geneva to Chamonix is via Finhaut (see: By car from Chamonix). If it's snowing hard, please contact us for advice via Chamonix (French side) or Lausanne (Swiss side) to drive. Tel. +41 27 768 10 33 or +41 79 688 13 71.
For private groups (as from 4 persons) it can be interesting to book an airport shuttle from the airport. Examples www.shuttledirect.com, www.mountaindropoffs.com, Airport Transfer Service (ATS) and Chamexpress. Most companies drive for shared transfers no further than Vallorcine or even Chamonix, but for groups they might be willing to continue to Finhaut. Do not be tempted to book a cheap shuttle to Chamonix - again: buying cheap is expensive! In winter the safest airport shuttle is the Swiss train, due to the state of the roads, but also because the col des Montets between Chamonix and Vallorcine is often closed due to avalanche danger.
